Rights: The UN Rights of the Child
1: Everyone < 18 has all 42 rights
2: UNCRC applies to everyone regardless of race,
religion, ability, views, family.
3: All organisations / people must promote what
is best for children.
4: Governments should work to promote all rights
of children
5: Families should respect rights and take responsibility
and direct and guide children
6: The right to life
7: A legally registered name and nationality; to be cared for by
parents, where appropriate.

10: Free movement for families between countries so that parents
and children may be together
11: Children must not be taken out of countries illegally.
12: All children have the right to be heard and to express their

groups
16: The right to privacy
17: Reliable information form mass media, TV, radio; media should
not promote harmful messages
18: Governments should provide support to parents to help bring
up their children
19: Children must be properly cared for and protected from violence,
abuse, neglect by parents and carers
20: If children cannot be looked after properly they must be looked
after by people who respect their religion, culture and language
21: If children are adopted, the first concern must always be what
is best for the child.
22: If children come to a country as refugees, they have the same
rights as other children born in that country
23: If a child has a disability it is entitled to special care and
support
24: The right to good quality health care, to clean water, nutrition,
food and a clean environment. Rich countries must help poor countries
25: Children in care / looked after by local authority, must be
reviewed regularly
26: Governments should provide extra money for children in families
in need
27: Standards of living must be adequate and provide for physical,
mental, spiritual and moral and social development

29: Education should enable all children to achieve their fullest
potential
30: The right to enjoy and express individual cultures within indigenous
groups
31: The right to rest, play and leisure
32: To be protected from exploitation and performing any work that
is hazardous or harmful to educational development
33: To be protected from illicit drugs – narcotics etc.
34: To be protected against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse
35: To be protected from abduction, sale and trafficking
36: To be protected from all forms of exploitation, prejudicial
to welfare
37: Not to be subjected to torture or other degrading treatment,
punishment or capital punishment
38: Children must not be involved in hostilities < 15 yrs
39: Governments must foster recovery and reintegration of all child
vicitims
40: Children alleged or accused of breaking penal laws must be treated
with dignity and justice. |
