Tuesday’s Child Goes Back To School
EVENT School Visit
VENUE St Bernard’s Primary School, Belfast
DATE Wednesday 6th December 2007
TIME 12pm
The Belfast based charity Tuesday’s Child goes back to school today.
Tuesday’s Child Director, Orla Sheehan, returns to her first primary school St Bernard’s, Rosetta, Belfast, to meet pupils and staff. St Bernard’s will be joining the Tuesday’s Child campaign to help vulnerable children across the world.
Tuesday’s Child is dedicated to giving a helping hand to children internationally and at home. The charity is based on the United Nations Human Rights of Children (UNCRC).
Tuesday’s Child is inviting all schools across the Province to join their project to promote justice for children in 12 countries across the world. Tuesday’s Child is also committed to helping children at home. Each school enrolling in the project are welcome to retain 20 percent of monies raised from album sales towards their school fund. The charity asks is that, where possible, children have a say on how monies raised for each school are spent, in keeping with Article 12 of the UNCRC, that children and young people “have a voice”.
Kieran McTaggart, principal of St Bernard’s is delighted to invite Orla back to school for a day. St Bernard’s are committed to teaching citizenship to children from an early age and have an excellent track record in supporting children’s charities. It is important that every child is aware of their human rights and the rights of other children. This project is a great way of teaching children to reach out and help needy children across the world while at the same participating in development of child-centred services in their own school.
Belfast singer-songwriters Brian Houston and Gerry Creen will be attending the event and bringing their guitars along for a bit of sing-song.
The project centres around the recently launched music double CD album, Tuesday’s Child, which includes songs from Westlife, Ronan Keating and Snow Patrol among others. For every album sold to teachers, parents and friends of each school, £3 will go towards a dedicated school project.
Tuesday’s Child hopes that all schools across the Province will embrace the initiative coming up to Christmas.
