To Gaza with love from Tuesday’s Child

“The wise men were overjoyed at seeing the star again… they opened their bags and offered Him their gifts.” Mt 2:11-12

DATE       Tuesday 5th January 2010

A Belfast children’s charity crossed into the Gaza strip today at 3 p.m. local time.
Tuesday’s Child received a rapturous welcome by their aid team waiting for them at the Erez border.

The Belfast group, bearing Christmas gifts and aid, is delighted to cross into Gaza at a time when access to the strip is proving especially difficult.

“It is just wonderful to reach Gaza”, said Tuesday’s Child, “and on this the eve of the Epiphany and on a Tuesday too”!

In keeping with the visit of the Magi to the Infant Child in the manager, Tuesday’s Child will spend several weeks visiting traumatised children and their families in the very poorest of homes, many makeshift, bearing gifts.

The visit comes at time when developments on the Egyptian border have dealt a huge psychological blow to the people of Gaza and they have all but lost hope.

We hope our visit will shine a little light into the darkness of people’s lives here and help them not to lose heart”, said Tuesday’s Child. “A huge thanks  to all those at home in Ireland and further afield who bought gifts for children in Gaza through our Christmas appeal and for sharing this journey with us”.

In this, the season of peace on earth and goodwill to all men, Tuesday’s Child asks all people to pray for leadership, grace and a new vision that will transcend the darkness into a new light.

One Country Country Spotlight: Democratic Republic of Congo... The recent civil war in eastern DRC has devastated many aspects of life and children are among those most affected. A population size equivalent to that of Ireland, north and south, died either through direct conflict or displacement. Mulongo is a school catering for about 2000 children. The school is one of many decimated during the war. It needs rebuilt and basic school supplies and a playground facility with better salaries to retain underpaid teachers. The Active Christian Evangelism (ACE) Group, lead by Dr Graham Fry, is funding the project; more funds are needed. Other areas in needs are feeding programmes, health promotion programmes and support of a new maternity hospital. Find out more about the Countries we help...
