Supper, Craic and Ceol with The Squealin’ Pigs for Children of Nairobi Slums

NEWS RELEASE • NEWS RELEASE • NEWS RELEASE

Dance and dine with the Squealing pigs in Ballykelly this Thursday night and help stamp out poverty in the slums of Nairobi.
An evening of traditional music at the Drummond Hotel in Ballykelly is being organised by Belfast charity, Tuesday’s Child.

Organiser Orla Sheehan is asking everyone to come along for just £10 with supper kindly provided by the The Drummond Hotel, Ballykelly.
“The funds will go to provide clean water for the children of Kariobangi in Nairboi, Kenya,” said Orla. “The area lacks basic amenities – with raw sewage seeping onto paths and sometimes into housing. The area chokes in garbage. And is a breeding ground for pests and disease including cholera and typhoid.”

“The programme will ensure children can get access to clean water – the most basic human need.
“Many of these face not only poverty, many are orphaned by HIV, many have HIV, homes can be a nightmare of social issues including abuse and prostitution.”
“These children are poverty stricken and ripe for exploitation by unscrupulous people. Children are at risk of human trafficking into forced labour, sexual exploitation and more recently the human organ trade”.

Around 1300 children have been rescued so far from a life of scavenging on the city dumps.
“So come on and bring some life to our party – and give a child a better life!”
On one Sunday recently two toddlers were abandoned outside the Catholic church in a large slum in Nairobi. The parish priest believes their parents were unable to feed them.
Within the slum, said Italian priest, Fr Paulino Mondo, “dozens of people are dying of hunger every day.”

The County Derry band, The Squealing Pigs will feature some of their best tracks including “Take Me to the River” and “You Really Got Me.” CHECK THIS??
The evening is on Thursday September 27 th at The Drummond Hotel, Ballykelly from eight till late. Tickets are available from the charity website at www.tuesdayschild.org.uk or from The Drummond Hotel or you can pay on the door.

One Country Country Spotlight: Democratic Republic of Congo... The recent civil war in eastern DRC has devastated many aspects of life and children are among those most affected. A population size equivalent to that of Ireland, north and south, died either through direct conflict or displacement. Mulongo is a school catering for about 2000 children. The school is one of many decimated during the war. It needs rebuilt and basic school supplies and a playground facility with better salaries to retain underpaid teachers. The Active Christian Evangelism (ACE) Group, lead by Dr Graham Fry, is funding the project; more funds are needed. Other areas in needs are feeding programmes, health promotion programmes and support of a new maternity hospital. Find out more about the Countries we help...
