16 Dec 2014 Tyrone housewife, Teresa Ghosh, has written a Christmas carol to help war-torn children this Christmas.
Teresa, a mother of four children, from Benburb, who plays the mandolin and banjo, has always cherished the true meaning of Christmas.
“I love Christmas and singing Christmas carols, it is my favourite time of the year”, said Teresa. “I wakened up one morning with the tune in my head and had the carol written before breakfast. I sang it to my own children and they loved it”, said Teresa.
Teresa wanted the Christmas carol to give glory to the Baby Jesus in the Manger and to help needy children.
“The carol is for children and Christmas is such a special time for children. Every child loves Santa, but it’s important that children also learn about what Christmas is really about – the birth of Christ”, she said.
Teresa has donated the song to Tuesday’s Child, a humanitarian charity based in Belfast that helps children around the world ravaged by war and injustice.
“We are delighted to receive the Christmas carol from Teresa. It’s a lovely melody and really catchy”, said Orla Sheehan, founder of Tuesday’s Child. We hope it will help many children this Christmas. Sadly, many children in our world, are suffering so much at this time of year from war, poverty, illness and injustice. We need the Infant Child more than ever to shine his light into the hearts and minds of world leaders and make our world a better place for every child, regardless of their faith preference, nationality or gender”.
The Bethlehem song will be performed today at the Live Crib in St Mary’s Church, Chapel Lane, by children of St Mary’s Primary School, Belfast between 1.30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
“Our live crib featuring Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and live animals – donkey, goats and sheep is perfect for recording the Christmas carol”, said Orla.
The carol is being recorded and produced by Start Together Recording of the Oh Yeah Music Centre in Belfast and will be released early next week in time for Christmas.
